Things you may have missed – Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War trailer

It’s only been about four months since the initial footage drop at San Diego Comic-Con, but finally, we have the first, full, official, beautifully majestic look at Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War! Since its release earlier this morning, I’ve poured over the trailer and caught a few details of things that were definitely missed. Or maybe they weren’t. I don’t know what you caught and what you didn’t. So here are five of the most obscure things I caught. Pretty obvious, but there is a potential spoiler warning for Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther, and a certainty of spoilers for everything that has come before and including Thor: Ragnarok.

Some quick mentions first though. It looks like Xander will fall very early in the film, as we can see Thanos has the Power Stone already on his glove, as he attaches the Space Stone second. Also, there is a significant time jump between this and the end of Guardians Vol 2, as we see teenage Groot in the shot of the Guardians talking to Thor. It’s also worth mentioning, that while we got a lot in the trailer, we also didn’t get a lot of characters, including Ant-Man, Nebula, Shuri, M’Baku, Valkyrie, Pepper Potts, and most notably, no Hawkeye. Alright, enough talking about stuff I didn’t plan on covering. Let’s get into it!

#5 Asgard… is dead.

Well, let’s start it off as bleak as we can. In the shots of Thanos walking over the dead bodies, and Loki giving Thanos the Tesseract, we can all but confirm these scenes will be taking place directly after the post credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok, where we got a very ominous shot of Thanos’s ship stalking the ship containing Thor, Loki, Valkyrie, Hulk, Korg and all the Asgardian refugees. So basically, Thanos absolutely destroys the Asgardians. Couple this in with what we know about how the Guardians meet Thor, and it’s basically a foregone conclusion that Thor, Valkyrie and Heimdall are the last remaining Asgardians (depending on where Lady Sif is).

#4 Can I just crash here?

Of the more obscure things I noticed in the trailer, one of the big ones was a shirtless Mark Ruffalo, snuggly cradled in some wreckage. However, what eagle eyed fans might have also noticed, is that the wreckage appears to actually be the staircase for 177A Bleecker Street, New York, also known as the Sanctum Sanctorum! Further evidence of this can actually be seen in the next shot of the trailer, as Wong and Doctor Strange are looking down, and we can see a hole in the roof of the Sanctum Sanctorum. So obviously (to me anyways), this is how Banner meets Strange.

#3 An army of Goro’s?

Now, most people might not actually know who or what the Outriders are, so lucky I am here to explain it to you! The Outriders are a race of genetically engineered humanoid creatures with the purpose of serving their maker until they die. They were introduced by Jonathan Hickman in the 2013 crossover series, Infinity, as scouts for Thanos so he could find planets to raze. However, in that series, the Inhumans were a player in that story, so I think Infinity will serve more as inspiration, instead of a straight adaption. In the trailer, Captain America punches one clean in the face like he did to Hitler 70 years ago. We also get another shot straight after of Black Panther punching one too. These look like they will be the army to fight for Thanos and the Black Order in Wakanda, in what possibly could be the climax of the film.

#2 Enter.. The Black Order.

While all talk seems to be about our first official look at Proxima Midnight (and she does look awesome), something quite a few people have missed is the first look we got of Cull Obsidian, and a kind of first look at Corvus Glaive. Now, we only got to see about half of Glaive, which happened to also be the lower half, as he is the one trying to pry the Mind Stone out of Vision’s forehead. This is confirmed via the glaive being used to remove the Stone from Vision. As for Cull Obsidian, he is the one fighting Wakandans in the field as Falcon flies overheard towards the end of the trailer. Unfortunately, we got no sighting of Ebony Maw, however, I feel in the next trailer (maybe around Superbowl), we will get a full look at the Black Order.

#1 If you need me, I’ll be there.

Going back to the scene at the Sanctum Sanctorum, we see that Strange, Wong and Banner are standing next to Tony Stark, and it is awesome to see these four all share the same screen at the same time. What was definitely missed by almost everyone, is what happens seconds before this shot. In Tony’s hand, we can see him fiddling with something. Well, that something happens to be a major piece of the story. It’s a phone. It’s not just any phone though. It’s the phone that Steve Rogers sent to Stark at the end of Civil War with the apology letter. Which means one thing. We know how this all starts. Banner is smacked to earth after Thanos destroys the Grandmaster’s ship carrying the Asgardian refugees, and warns Stark that some major shit is about to go down, just as that same shit begins in New York.
